Charlotte Mason
"The question is not, -- how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education -- but how much does he care? and about how many orders of things does he care? In fact, how large is the room in which he finds his feet set? and, therefore, how full is the life he has before him?"Mason believed that each child deserved respect and that their education should be broad. The lessons also took into account the child's age and ability. Lessons are very short (from 5 to 15 minutes) for 6 year olds but gradually increases to 45. Outdoor play was encouraged. Literary works are used instead of textbooks. For children 6 to 10, narration and oral answers allow the child to learn without the mechanical problems of writing. Art and music are integral to children's education.
